Specification, Management & On-Site Client Representation

Often associated with tight timescales for data delivery and high mobilisation & operation costs, surveys are usually on the project's critical path.

Working closely with clients to maximise Added Value, Coastal Science offers a full range of Survey Management services, from Tender Specification and Review through to on-site Client Representation.

Coastal Science achieves this by bringing to the project:

• A thorough understanding of the practicalities of gathering data at sea, including optimal survey strategy

• A detailed appreciation of why the data is needed and how it will be used, thereby giving the survey flexibility where necessary whilst continuing to optimise the gathering of data in the context of client needs

• The ability to communicate effectively with the client, the survey team and boat crew.

• The ability to make rapid and robust decisions regarding operations and safety.

Coastal Science Director Phil Shepperd has 14 years core experience in the consultancy / modelling industry, backed up by a strong nautical background as an Advanced Powerboat Skipper (Commercial) and Inshore Lifeboat Coxswain (www.sidmouthlifeboat.org.uk). Phil has worked on ADCP transects, dye releases, geophysical & bathymetric surveys, instrument deployments and water quality monitoring programs all around the UK coast.

This combination of skills and experience (both acquisition and end-user) allow Coastal Science to provide excellent Survey Management services to clients commissioning oceanographic and geophysical surveys in the coastal zone. Coastal Science also utilises a growing number of Associates with excellent survey management credentials.

Please note that we specialise in surveys up to 60 nautical miles from the coast, rather than the very different offshore surveys usually associated with the Oil & Gas sector.
